Techniques to Help You Cope with Cat Shedding

Cats shed normally to replenish their fur and maintain it in good condition. It is nature's way of helping the cat groom. Cat owners need only to accept this fact and deal with it appropriately.

A wild cat sheds fur twice a year. In the spring the shedding removes a winter undercoat. In the fall the shedding prepares a wild cat's new coat for the coming winter. Our domesticated cats live in artificial winter heating and artificial summer cooling. This might be the reason why our domesticated cats shed constantly. The dead hair should be removed as it can cause a pet cat skin irritation. This process of shedding fur is a healthy one for all cats. A sick cat will not shed hair and is one sign the cat is sick.

Pet cat shedding depends on the time he or she spends outdoors. Shedding is significantly affected by daylight and can begin if the cat spends a number of hours in sunlight. The shedding process also depends on the bathing, grooming (like brushing, etc.) as well as the cat's activities. My suggestion is to use Life's Abundance Pet Grooming Products. They have a full line of excellent holistic products that include:

Cats who live outside also require grooming and you can use the same products above for best results. The difference is a cat who lives outdoors will shed once in spring and once in the fall just like a wild cat as these do not live under artificial heat and cooling like our indoor pet cats. In the fall, an outdoor cat may not shed much at all as they keep their fur for the cold weather.

If you want a cat that sheds minimal amounts of hair, purchase a Cornish Rex that has short curly hair or a Devon Rex who has a similar coat. The shedding of these two types of cat is usually unnoticeable, but still yet, they will shed some. Below is a photo of a Devon Rex cat. They are so very beautiful!

The Sphynx cat breed is the only one that does not shed at all as they have no fur to shed. The Sphynx cat is very rare but does provide the perfect solution to people who are allergic to cat fur.

Help control the shedding of your cat's fur by using the Life's Abundance Pet Grooming products as suggested above. In addition, brush and comb the cat's fur daily to remove loose and dead hair. Start brushing your cat's hair as soon as you get he or she as a kitten or adult. Start slow getting the cat use to the grooming tools and your techniques. Stop brushing before the cat protests. This way, the cat does not learn he or she is in control of your brushing, but that you are in control. Make the grooming sessions more pleasant by providing the cat with an after groom cat treat such as is offered through Life's Abundance as these treats are highly nutritious as well as tasty. The more your cat likes the treat, the more cooperative he or she will become just to get the treat. Try their new cat treat: Turkey Hearts Freeze-Dried Cat Treats

Turkey Hearts Freeze Dried Cat Treats
Cats seemingly appear out of thin air when you open a bag of Life's Abundance sumptuous Turkey Hearts. These treats are excellent used as rewards after grooming your cat, but be sure and stop the grooming before your cat says to stop always maintaining control of the grooming sessions and of course making them longer as much as the cat will tolerate. These treats are so vexingly delicious, you’d better be mindful of your fingers when feeding your kitty these morsels!

The freeze-drying process preserves the robust, wholesome flavors that cats hunger for, sealing in all the vitamins and minerals found naturally in our pasture-raised turkeys. With zero carbs, fillers or artificial anything, Turkey Hearts tempt the taste buds of even the finickiest eaters. As a caring pet parent, you’ll feel happier knowing that you’re providing yummy goodness that actually supports healthy diets.

When you comb your cat's fur proceed carefully in the hair growth direction. This procedure will smooth the coat and removes any tangles (use the Life's Abundance Bath Fresh Mist during this process, as it will help smooth out the tangles without hurting your cat). Use a wide toothed comb and then a fine tooth comb on long haired cats.

If you want a cat that requires little brushing choose a short haired cat like an American Shorthair, British Shorthair or some other short haired cat. The long hair cat breeds will require much more combing, brushing and grooming.

Even though nature provides the cat with their ability to shed fur, frequent brushing and combing of your cat's fur helps removes dead and lose hair you can dispose of quickly rather than the shedding of fur settling elsewhere in your home.

Frequent brushing and combing minimizes mats and tangles in a long haired cat, and for the short hair cats, this frequent brushing routine as I said above helps remove the shedding fur in a way you can control.

Of course, the grooming sessions should always remain pleasant as these times provide ideal occasions for you and your cat to bond and interact. And don't forget to give he or she a treat when the session turns out pleasant. If there are any disagreements during the grooming sessions, do not give the cat a treat. Strive for pleasant encounters and the treat after will reinforce the cat's pleasant behavior for the next grooming session. Never reward the cat if he or she behaves badly during a groom session.
